The Ghana National Gas Company (Ghana Gas) has rejected claims of an impending shortage of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).
[contextly_sidebar id=”S3yoVzXxbdINsy0Tg3Bnpc45AsKt0TDQ”]The company says it has enough storage of LPG to supply and meet demand in the next 14 days that the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah will be shut down for routine maintenance.
There are fears that domestic and vehicular users of LPG are likely to experience some shortage due to the temporary halt of gas export to the onshore processing plant of the Ghana Gas as the FPSO undergoes routine maintenance.
In an interview with Citi Business News, the Corporate Affairs Manager of Ghana Gas, Alfred Ogbamey said though the FPSO shut down will result in an interruption in the company’s ability to produce LPG, there is enough gas to meet demand beyond the 14 days slated for the planned maintenance.
“We do not anticipate that the system will suffer any shortage in that we got enough storage that can last for some time; depending on the goods in town as well. We also have a storage facility which has LPG and the condensate. Even on the day of the shutdown, it will take like 3 hours or more before the downstream side being the VRA, will stop receiving gas from us. Therefore we do not anticipate that the 14 days period will cause any shortage,” Alfred Ogbamey said.
“It is even possible that the FPSO will come back from its maintenance before the 14th date given. Therefore we don’t foresee any shortage of LPG on the market depending how we draw on the storage we have.” He added.
