The Centre for Gender Studies & Advocacy, University of Ghana, has announced an Ama Ata Aidoo Short Story Competition as part of its 10th Anniversary Celebration.
This competition will be in honour of Professor Ama Ata Aidoo for her multiple roles as a pan-African feminist, an author, poet and playwright.
Prospective entrants into the competition must be an African and registered student of the University of Ghana or must have graduated within the past five years (2011-2016).
Each participant will be expected to submit three copies of a full-length original unpublished short story with a maximum 5000 words.
The winner of this competition will be awarded a laptop and airtime on a radio station and the two runners up will each receive a tablet.
Aside this, the ten best stories will receive publishing deals.
The 3 prize winners will be announced on August 10, 2016. The prizes will presented at a ceremony to be held in honour of Prof. Ama Ata Aidoo on August 27, 2016.
The story should have a strong female protagonist, must be typed, double spaced and in Times New Roman 12 point font.

Ama Ata Aidoo is an author, poet, playwright and academic. She was also a Minister of Education under the Jerry Rawlings administration.
Aidoo’s works of fiction notably focus on with the tension between Western and African world views. Her first novel, ‘Our Sister Killjoy’, was published in 1977 and remains one of her most popular works.
Among her numerous works are ‘The Dilemma of a Ghost’, ‘Anowa’ and ‘No Sweetness Here: A Collection of Short Stories.’
