Airtel Ghana in collaboration with TRACE Urban, have launched Season 2 of the Airtel Trace Music Star (ATMS), in a grand ceremony at the exquisite Plot 7 lounge in Osu, Accra.
The launch draped in the crimson of the Airtel brand featured icons of Ghanaian music like VVIP, Obuor and Becca, along with Airtel Ambassadors Ahuofe Patri and comedian Kalybos.
[contextly_sidebar id=”qdYmMnAwcs1pbETnYDk4TkZvApi0Qg5F”]Speaking at the launch, Rosy Fynn, the Marketing Director at Airtel Ghana, noted that the scale of the ATMS and stressed the uniqueness of the competition, one of the Ghana’s marquee talent competitions.
“Airtel Trace Music Star is arguably the biggest and most exciting music talent search competition in Africa. This competition is unique in the sense that it provides the platform for every Ghanaian on Airtel, who has a voice and a passion for music to actualize their dreams. It is a competition for every budding musician out there looking for an opportunity to rise to stardom without the hassle of going through unending auditions and nervous stage moments.”
“Together with TRACE, we are activating this competition in Ghana and across 16 other African countries and it is opened to every Ghanaian on the Airtel Network,” she added.
Why is this competition is unique
The ATMS has the novelty of being a competition that has the entrants showcase their talent via a short code.
Rosy Fynn explained how the competition worked saying, “To enter, all you need to do is to call the Airtel short code 533, record your song, submit it and stand the chance of winning…”
The winner of this season of the ATMS will be presented with a contract with a major record label, a mentorship programme with multi-award winning American singer-songwriter Keri Hilson in Atlanta, and worldwide media exposure through various TRACE’s platforms.
The winner will also get the chance to star in their own music video alongside Keri Hilson and he/she will get an opportunity to record a duet with the songstress.
Reggie Rockson and Becca unveiled as judges for Airtel Trace Music Star season 2
The press launch also saw the unveiling of music and entertainment icon Reggie Rockson of VVIP Fame, and songstress and diva Becca as judges for ATMS season 2.
The entries submitted will be vetted by the judges for this year’s competition and contestants who make it through the vetting will be notified and passed on to the next stage of the competition.
The finalists over the period will contest in the national finale where the winner will walk away with GHc 50,000 prize money and an all-expenses paid trip to Lagos for the Pan African finale.
Rosy Fynn also served reminder that friends, family and the public will play a part in the competition as always by voting and they too will stand the chance of winning some prizes.
“Friends and family members are not left out of the excitement, they have the opportunity to power their contestants to victory by voting for them. So whether you’re a contestant or an acquaintance of a contestant, you all stand a chance of winning exciting prizes,”She concluded.
With 2.3 million calls made in its previous season, ATMS is the biggest music competition to ever take place in Africa. The number of contestants surpassed European and American talent shows such as “The Voice” and “Idols”.
The mobile phone based ATMS talent search contest won the “Best Pan-African Initiative” accolade at the prestigious AfricaCom Awards held in Cape Town, South Africa.
This year’s Airtel TRACE Music Star competition will be activated in Ghana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Niger, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Nigeria, Tanzania, and Zambia as the newest African territory to enter the competition from February 1, 2016. The best singing talent in each territory will be identified, rewarded and compete for the title of best African music talent.
