Simon Cowell has donated £25,000 towards treatment for a toddler battling cancer.
The X Factor judge made the generous donation during a surprise phone call to mum Kat Musgrove, 27, after seeing the plight of her three-year-old son Kian.
Kian, who is suffering for a second time from a childhood cancer called neuroblastoma, needs to raise £555,000 for immunotherapy treatment with an antibody called 3F8 in the US and to take part in a vaccine trial.
Simon is making the generous donation to the fund as well as paying for the flights for Kian and his family out to the US.
Kat told Chronicle Live that she received the call while at her son’s bedside at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary on Wednesday.
“I can’t believe it, I have tears streaming down my face.
“He just called up and said he wanted to help and said he would drop £25,000 into our fundraising account.
“I’m still trying to get my head around it all. He was so nice and kind and just said he wanted to do something to help,” she said.
His donation comes after an online campaign using the hashtag #GetKianToSimon to raise awareness of Kian’s illness.
The music mogul, who is dad to two-year-old Eric, tweeted that he had spoken to Kian’s mum and backed their campaign, calling Kian a “truly brave young boy”.
The official fundraising page shows that over £327,000 has already been donated.
