In what appears to be a battle for supremacy, New Patriotic Party(NPP) political rivals of the Klottey Korle Constituency, have set the grounds for a fierce contest this weekend.
Parliamentary Aspirant Nii Noi Nortey, says Philip Addison, his main contender in Saturday’s Parliamentary primary re-run, is naive for suggesting that the defection of some core members of his campaign team puts him ahead in the race.
Lawyer Addison, earlier told Citi News that some members of Nii Noi’s campaign team have defected to his side because he [Nii Noi Nortey] failed to fulfill promises he made to them prior to the previous primary which he won.
[contextly_sidebar id=”lsFlycuGA2tb4LfDQxoRgZX1FSfimeXP”]But speaking to Citi News’ Franklin Badu Jnr, Nii Noi Nortey said Lawyer Addison would have no advantage over him simply because of the defection.
I’m not complacent
He said “I’m not complacent with an election until the last ballot is counted and you are elected winner, so I have to still keep working hard.”
He argued that Mr. Addison is entitled to his opinion with such claims but advised him “to know that, this is politics; he shouldn’t be saying such things because if he thinks that my close confidants are with him, he should look around well, what if we sent them to be around him? It’s politics so at the end of the day, let’s see what God decides, where the victory goes.”
On reports that one of the aspirants, Nii Adjei Tawiah had stepped down to support Addison, Nii Noi Nortey said he is not perturbed by such move.
“With election, any serious politician will tell you that, you don’t go for 50/50, we go for the majority.”
I’m bitter about primary re-run
Nii Nortey had earlier been elected winner of the primary held in 2015, but the court ordered a re-run after his contenders contested the results in court. In that election, he polled 393 votes, while Philip Addison and Nii Adjei Tawiah polled 22 and 19 votes respectively.
Nii Nortey said although he feels bitter about the issue, he is hopeful he will emerge the winner again come February 27.
“We all feel bitter about it but like I said, victory comes from God; and the Bible tells us hard work pays. The delegates on the ground know what they want, after my victory, the whole party must unite in the constituency and work towards victory come November 7,” he added.
