The 2016 Presidential Candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has bemoaned the culture of intolerance in Ghana’s politics.
According to him, it is such “dirty politics” that has denied Dr. J.B Danquah his rightful place in the political history of the country even though he contributed significantly to the nation’s quest for independence.
[contextly_sidebar id=”Q70ctJ5PPSfDa0AlXufindZcj3EQsqnn”]Nana Akufo Addo made these comments at the launch of a book on the life of Dr. J.B Danquah titled “Things every child should know about Dr. J.B Danquah.”
He said “one would have thought therefore that the details of his life and achievements would be widely available and well known.”
“Unfortunately, the intolerance streak in our politics that took hold in the early years of our nationhood, led to a deliberate attempt to write out the significant role played by J.B Danquah and others in the formation of Ghana, that J.B Danquah did the research and came up with the idea of calling our country Ghana should never have been a contested or surprising fact.”
The 72-pages long book authored by Abyna-Ansaa Adjei tells the story of Dr. Danquah’s life from his childhood, his years of academic excellence as a student as well as his political career.
It also details the contributions J.B Danquah made to virtually all areas of national life.
