Even before he officially assumes office, the Minister-designate for the Transport Ministry, Fifi Kwetey says he will work hard to make the transport sector a model for other West African countries.
The Former Agric minister was appointed by the President, last week to head the ministry, after Dzifa Attivor resigned from her position over the GHc3.6 million cedi bus branding scandal.
Fifi Kwetey, who has served in different capacities in the Mahama administration since 2012, told Citi News he is ready for the new challenge.
He said “I don’t look at it as a demotion or as a promotion; both ministries are important sectors for the country. Agriculture sector is very key for the country and the transport sector is also a sector that has huge opportunities in terms of virtually becoming a transport hub for the sub-region therefore anything that has to do with transport is very key as far as our economic growth is concern.”
“I’m somebody whose natural passion is economics, anything that can help and transform the economy I’m absolutely happy about it.”
Fifi Kwetey further added that the new role given him is “a good opportunity, obviously a great learning opportunity as well. Often times people think that you need to be technical before you can do some stuffs, not at all.”
