The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a soldier and his accomplice for allegedly carjacking a driver and stealing twenty Ghana cedis from him.
The suspects, Lance Corporal Michael Quarcoo, 24 and Baffoe Archer, 24, tied the taxi driver with a rope in a urinal at the independence Square and bolted with the car and money.
Addressing journalists in Accra earlier today, the deputy Accra Regional Police Commander ACP Timothy Bonga said the suspects have been processed for court.
“On Tuesday December, 29, 2015, at about 11pm, the soldier dressed in a military uniform and his accomplice hired a taxi cab from Tudu to Castle Osu. On reaching the CEPS traffic light, the military officer requested to use the washroom and directed the complainant to drive to the Independence Square. On arrival the military officer visited the washroom as requested. From nowhere he returned with a pistol and ordered them out of the car. The two marched him to the washroom and tied him up. They searched and took an amount of GH20 from him and took away his mobile phone. The driver was abandoned to his fate and his vehicle was also taken,” he said.
He added that the two were arrested when they attempted selling the vehicle at Adabraka.
