The incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) has also taken turns to congratulate Ivor Kwabena Greenstreet, the newly elected Presidential Candidate of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), who shockingly beat highly-tipped Samia Nkrumah to emerge victorious.

Mr. Greenstreet in a landslide victory polled 1,288 votes to beat daughter of CPP Founder and Ghana’s First President, Samia Nkrumah who had 579 votes in Saturday election at the Accra International Trade Fair Centre.

The two other contenders including Joseph Agyapong, a new entrant, polled 83 votes, while Mr. Bright Akwetey, a man who made a fourth attempt came last with just 42 votes.

“The election of comrade Greenstreet is another testimony of the CPP’s resolve to continue to do its utmost best to deepen its internal democracy and also help deepen Ghana’s nascent democratic dispensation.”

“The NDC salutes the 3 other comrades who contested comrade Greenstreet for accepting the will and choice of the majority of the delegates.

“We wish comrade Greenstreet well in his new and daunting role and pray that the CPP continues to remain very relevant on the Ghanaian political landscape.”

Mr. Greenstreet in December 2014 incurred the wrath of President Mahama and practically the entire membership of the NDC, when he boldly and frontally criticized President Mahama and his administration for putting Ghanaians through so much hardship.

Mr. Greenstreet made the comments deemed unpalatable to the NDC when he mounted a dais at the Babayara Sports Stadium in Kumasi to deliver a solidarity message at the party’s congress to elect its executives.

Regardless of the NDC’s condemnations of his brash posture, many Ghanaians commended him for the comment they considered truthful.
