The Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Angwubutoge Awuni, has denied media reports he supported the Organised Labour protest in Koforidua with the Police Band.
Speaking on Radio Ghana however, DCOP Awuni admitted he did indeed provide a police band during the demonstration but not to support the protesters.
According to the Police commander, he only provided the police band as a strategic move to prevent any form of vandalism on the part of the protesters.
“Why don’t I put a Police band to march them through so that the Police band will play music for them and divert their attention, calm down nerves and take them to the regional coordinating council,” he said.
DCOP Angwubutoge Awuni further called on all media houses that aired such a story to provide evidence of these alleged actions on his part or face a suit.
“I think that is very unprofessional on the part of any journalist. The records are there to be played back. I will challenge them to play back whatever I said that and if they fail… we will sue them and whoever reported for them if they fail to prove to the world that I said I was pledging support for the demonstrators.”
