The General Transport, Petroleum and Chemical Workers Union (GTPCWU) has hinted, the process of admitting workers from the Ghana National Gas Company to the union is almost through.
This is news comes despite the workers of the Ghana National Gas Company having been frustrated by their management for months following their attempts to join the union.
The process, which was started in July last year, is yet to be concluded.
Section 128 of the Labour Act prohibits the interference by employers in the formation of a union or in union affairs.
Speaking to Citi News, the Deputy General Secretary of GTPCWU, Francis Salah said despite months of frustration, plans are far advanced for the workers of the Ghana National Gas Company to join the union.
He stated that, “the process is now far advanced. We were supposed to have met somewhere this week but the chief labour officer was not in town so he requested that we postpone that meeting…”
According to Mr Salah, management also said they had a meeting and planned trips and this led to both parties agreeing to meet the labour officer next Tuesday.
Mr Salah added that the process has not been easy adding it has been six months since they put in place measures for them to join the GTPCWU.
“It has not been easy,” he said, “Since… July 2015 when we activated the process and we are now into 2016 and it should tell you that it has not been easy getting them onto the union.”
