The incumbent Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Baba Jamal, has secured his fifth consecutive victory in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary of his constituency.
Baba Jamal polled 3,653 votes against his opponent, Basil Ahiable’s 2,016 to earn the chance to stand on the ticket of the ruling NDC in the November general elections.
Baba Jamal will now face competition from business woman and parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party, Madam Mercy Adu-Gyemfi for the Akwatia seat.
The total 5,767 valid votes were cast out of a voting population of 8,058 with 98 rejected ballots.
The primary in this constituency was called off last year due to security concerns and a dispute over the voters register.
