The Accra Regional Police has asked for the support of all political parties in the country ahead of and during this year’s elections.
At a meeting with the various political parties at the Accra Regional Police Command, the Accra Regional Police Commander, COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, said for the police to perform their duties well, they will need the support of the political parties.
“The police as entity has a responsibility to maintain law and order and we have realized that the maintenance of law and order is a shared responsibility. The police will lead, but will need the support of all, especially the active players in the whole process and that is where the political parties feature prominently,” he said.
COP Dampare also revealed the police are setting up a system that would ensure a continuous communication between police and the political parties.
“We are going to establish what we call early warning policing system, which will be in such a way that at any point in time, if there is anything going on within the environment that you operate, you will be able to share with the police for us to act on them before it embarrasses the country. In the same way, we the police will be in a position to share with you, at all levels of your political structure, all things that we think are of concern to us that you need to pay attention to.”
