Apostle Onyina of The Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Dr. Opoku Onyina, has expressed concern about the use of inflammatory and offensive language in Ghana’s political discourse and urged a paradigm shift ahead of the 2016 election year.
Apostle Dr. Opoku Onyina, who gave the advice in a Christmas message to Ghanaians, said he was particularly concerned about the plain insults targeted at the leadership of the country on both radio stations and on social media platforms.
“Next year is an election year and we are urging those who appear on radio and TV stations, especially, the politicians, social commentator and serial callers to desist from insults and speak well of people and the nation for God says he opposes the arrogant because he himself was born in a manger and he wants everyone to be humble” the statement said.

1st Samuel 2:3 “Do not keep talking so proudly or let your mouth speak such arrogance, for the Lord is a God who knows and by him deeds are weighed”.
Sometimes some arrogant people speak evil things on people. When you listen to the radio stations and the social media, it is sad how people speak ill of people, especially our leaders. I recently listened to one insult on the sitting President on a radio station and I was shocked and surprised so I had to turn off the radio.
I listened to another also on a former President and I asked myself, are these people afraid of God? And I was surprised that the host of that station did not cut the person off because some stations will cut you off when you start insulting and saying unpleasant things on air.
How can you talk to a sitting and a former President like that? God says we should not do that to even children. We must respect each other. We must respect our friends, brothers and sisters, the poor and the needy as well.
If someone does something wrong to you, leave it to God. It is not good to stand in public and speak evil of that person. People do it in our marriages. Some households are full of insults and it does not depict there is God in that house.
Next year is an election year and we are urging those who appear on radio and TV stations, especially, the politicians, social commentator and serial callers to desist from insults and speak well of people and the nation for God says he opposes the arrogant because he himself was born in a manger and he wants everyone to be humble.
I wish all Ghanaians Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.
God Bless Ghana
