A beneficiary of the “Justice for all” programme has been arrested together with another accomplice for allegedly robbing and snatching cars from their owners.
The two in question allegedly operate in and around the national capital, Accra.
[contextly_sidebar id=”bnXv4tSvvX5lmSDyFDx4iSrzhsznDygq”]The “Justice for all” programme is an initiative of the judiciary, with support from the Office of the Attorney-General, the Ghana Prisons Service and the Ghana Bar Association, which is aimed at decongesting the prisons of remanded prisoners.
Addressing journalists at a press conference on Monday, the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP Christian Tetteh-Yohuno, said the suspects(names undisclosed) would be arraigned before court.
Outlining the facts of the case, he stated that the car snatching syndicate operated within Amasaman and and had succeeded in 20 different hijacking operations.
On the evening of the 17th November, the two hired a taxi at Osu with the intention to hijack the car.
Two went on to attack and rob the taxi driver of his car upon reaching their destination at Afienya.
The taxi driver immediately reported the hijacking to the police leading to the arrest of the two individuals and the recovery of the stolen taxi at Pokuase APC, on their way to Dunkwa.
