Ahead of their upcoming World Cup qualifier against the Comoros Islands Black Stars skipper Asamoah has expressed his displeasure at the manner in which he and his colleagues are being forced to accept a fifty percent reduction in the match bonus package.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports have clearly stated that it will only pay players an amount of $5000 as winning bonus instead of the usual $10,000.
According to reports the Ministry have stated that their offer is a non-negotiable one,a stance Gyan finds disturbing and unacceptable.
To tell you the truth I am quite upset with this,” Gyan revealed in an interview with Accra-based radio station, Montie fm. “I think it is an issue against personalities. “We as footballers should also be considered as workers and after a hard day’s work, one needs to get paid.
“I don’t think when I hang up my boots and I fall sick I will go into the offices of a Minister and say because I played for the national team he should give me money to take care of my medical expenses.”
“We are not slaves so such things cannot be enforced in the manner in which I hear it is being enforced.” The Sports Ministry have revealed that the current bonuses of the team are unsustainable and thus the decision to reduce them.”
