The Police say the Taxi driver who allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death at the University of Professional Studies (UPS) was granted bail a day before the incident.
The Taxi driver, Paul murdered Jennifer Atieku, a level 300 Banking and Finance student on Thursday for allegedly ending their five year relationship abruptly.

The Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police Command, ASP Effia Tenge told Citi News that Paul was granted bail on Wednesday and executed his threats on Thursday adding that they are investigating the matter.
“The information we have gathered so far indicates that the suspect, whose name has just been given as Paul and also a Taxi driver, were in some form of relationship…and the girl has been avoiding the suspect for some time now. The deceased made a report to the Police that she’s been receiving death threats from the suspect. The Police also arrested the Taxi driver and he was only granted bail on Wednesday and he went ahead to carry out his threat. so for now, the case is still under investigation.”
Meanwhile, reports indicates that Paul after the murder also tried to commit suicide but was not successful and is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
ASP Effia Tenge said the culprit will be charged immediately when discharged from the hospital.
“He also after stabbing the girl, stabbed himself in the abdomen. So he is also responding to treatment. Our hope is that he responds quickly so that we can continue with our investigations and prosecute him accordingly for having caused the death of Jennifer Atieku,” ASP Tenge added.
