Investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, has dared former Attorney General Martin Amidu, to go to court to prove allegations of crime levelled against him.
The former AG, also an anti-corruption campaigner affectionately referred to as the ‘Citizen Vigilante’, has accused Anas of adopting criminal means in his undercover work.
Mr. Amidu has suggested among other things, that Anas is a government-agent operating an illegal entity, and had been selective with portions of his recent judiciary exposé by protecting corrupt politicians.
[contextly_sidebar id=”iex5XyWGdFfOOUQxtz6u7BvrnTKA6j1g”]But Anas has denied all the allegations against him and his private investigative firm, TigereyePI, and demanded proof from Mr. Amidu.
In an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show on Tuesday, Anas dared the man he affectionately referred to as ‘Uncle’ to go to court with his evidence to set the records straight.
He told Host of the Citi Breakfast Show Bernard Avle, that Mr. Amidu can follow the example of the indicted judges in the judicial corruption scandal who have equally taken legal actions against him on the subject matter.
“Uncle Martin says that I have parliamentary video which I have shown to 275 members and that is false. He also says I was commissioned by government to do an investigation which is false. He also says I excluded some videos; and that is also false. And he has not been able top able to provide a shred of evidence since we started. So why do I keep going on and on…And now it is about my company and its registration because I don’t have limited written at the end of it. And now he says I have freed a rapist so some women should come after me. You don’t even know where the debate is going.”
He noted “like I said, I have enjoyed Egbert Faibile because he has taken me to court that I shouldn’t be hooded. At the end of the day; the beauty of this our democracy is that, the court of law will make a pronouncement on it and it will be something that will guide us throughout our lives as to whether somebody can come to court hooded or not. Nkrabeah Effah-Darteh is also challenging constitutionality and has gone to court which is beautiful; so let’s see what happens. I am saying that if we want to get something substantive; if there is something to go by, he [Martin Amidu] should please go to court” Anas suggested.
Anas continued “I don’t have any idea that Uncle Amidu is corrupt; he still remains my Uncle. When I need something, I will go to him and ask him whether he gives me or not. I respect him as a senior statesman; he has been through a lot that I have not been through, but on this occasion like I keep saying, I don’t think he had his facts right and pointing it out right to him is not disrespect; it’s difference in opinion.”
Mr. Martin Amidu had hinted he may go to court but has not happened yet
