The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) is backing the Ghana Education Service’s, (GES) decision to sack teachers working with fake certificates.
The GES announced the decision to lay off hundreds of teachers operating with fake certificates across the country.
[contextly_sidebar id=”hsVx3u8Klwlbwl08vYeEwug5ANZLF2lg”]The decision follows an ongoing audit and verification of certificates and documents of teachers in the nation.
Speaking to Citi News on the development, the General Secretary of GNAT, Mawunyo Demenya, said the decision will bring sanity to the noble profession, adding that the Association will not spare any teacher found culpable.
“If you are using fake certificates, you don’t expect that a union will protect you.I don’t believe that anybody will support someone with a fake certificate,” he said.
In a related development, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ghana Education Service, Rev. Jonathan Bettey has said the service should not be blamed for the influx of fake teachers in the education sector.
In an interview on Eyewitness News, Rev. Jonathan Bettey insisted that the GES cannot be held responsible for the presence of unqualified teachers in the public education system.
He further gave the assurance that the GES is doing all it can to address the problem.
