A group calling itself the Volta Youth For Development, is asking President John Mahama to select the Speaker of Parliament, Doe Adjaho, as his running mate for the 2016 elections.
The Chairman of the group, Prosper Fofo Ndekor, in a statement, said that a decision by President Mahama to replace the Vice President, Kwesi Amissah Arthur, with the Speaker of Parliament, will help the National Democratic Congress (NDC) secure victory in the 2016 elections.
The statement signed by Mr. Prosper Fofo Ndekor and two others, said their research had shown that the party will lose votes drastically if President Mahama settles on Mr. Amissah-Arthur for the second time because of his incompetence.
[contextly_sidebar id=”K3zWtYPjuJXwi43KJx2BcyGvjCKKLt9Y”]“The fact is, Ghanaians have seen Amissah Arthur to be very incompetent as the Vice President to President Mahama and so, our belief which has sprung out of a research is that, his pair again with President Mahama as his running mate can only reduce the votes of NDC drastically.”
The group is of the view that with the Volta Region being the NDC’s strongest support base, it is appropriate for the President to select a running mate from there.
“With the continuous strong support of NDC by Voltarians despite our continuous neglect by the NDC when it comes to development and ministerial position assignments, we as a result deem it fit for the President and all the national executives of the NDC party to at least “console our soul” with this running mate position.”
The release also stated that Mr. Doe Adjaho has no hand in their demands, adding that they only suggested him because they view him to be the best man from the Volta Region.
“Even though Hon. Doe Adjaho has no hand in our demand, we have chosen to nominate him to be considered for this position because we see him as the best out of all the voltarians in NDC, which has been proven through a research of ours with respect to the majority of voltarians in and out of the Volta region.”
But in an interview later on Citi Eyewitness News, Mr. Ndekor reiterated Amissah Arthur’s “incompetence” and noted, “we are not partisan. We do not do politics. We put the region first in everything.”
When asked to explain the details of their research that concluded on the incompetence of Amissah-Arthur among others, Mr. Ndekor fumbled repeatedly.
In his view, Mr. Amissah-Arthur is not seen publicly doing much work compared to other Vice President’s in the past.
Meanwhile the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Koku Anyidoho, in an interview on Citi Eyewitness News urged members of the party to ignore the calls from the Volta Youth for Development and any other group, regarding the selection of President Mahama’s running mate.
