Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan has protested bitterly about the nature of the pitch at the Accra Sports Stadium when the team held its first training session ahead of the World Cup Qualifier against the Comoros Islands.
The turf at the Accra Sports stadium has reached an unacceptable level for any meaningful sporting activity due to a current strike by workers of Green Grass Technology over unpaid wages dating back to 2012.
The players available were coerced to make use of a narrow stretch of the pitch in an attempt to salvage the situation.
It is unlikely the state of the pitch will improve if drastic measures are not taken before the scheduled session for Tuesday.
Gyan who missed the team’s last competitive match against Rwanda with a hamstring injury disclosed that the technical handlers of the Black Stars would be engaged on the next line of action to take in this mini crisis. “If its going to be like this then I am sorry I don’t think we can train here.
“We are all professionals and we will sit down with the technical team to discuss where to train tomorrow because we need to prepare for the match against Comoros.”
“We didn’t even want to train because you cannot play on this field. “We are appealing to those who work on the grass to make sure that it is ready for us to train on Tuesday,” a disturbed Gyan told press men after the session.
