The second half saw Jordan Ayew create space for himself inside the penalty box, but missed at the near post with only the goalkeeper to beat.
The game’s best chance fell to skipper for Ghana on the day, Andre Ayew, who did well to free himself from a tangle of legs, but scuffed his shot narrowly wide much to the relieve of the home supporters.
Ghana will have the referee to thank after what looked like a perfect goal was ruled out as an offside in the 81st minute.
The introduction of Accam, Badu and Gyan in the latter stages of the game, brought urgency into Ghana’s game in the final moments.
Substitute Agyemang Badu latched onto a loose ball and struck from 20 yards out; but could only find the bottom of the left post only for Andre Ayew to see his rebound effort cannon back off the post again.
At the end of 90 minutes, both teams will rue their missed chances; but the home side will be more content with the outcome.
The second leg encounter comes off on the 17th at the Baba Yara stadium in Kumasi.
