New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, K.T. Hammond, says the immediate past Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Professor Stephen Adei, may have to face Parliament’s Privileges Committee to defend his claims that MPs demand bribes before approving projects and policies.
The vociferous MP in an apparent angry tone, made this known in an interview on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News.
[contextly_sidebar id=”CWVkL09Vfo9QCLW79xZ1UZTROofNPt9q”]His comment is a response to Professor Adei’s outburst at the 40th anniversary of the SAPS School in Accra over the weekend.
The straightforward professor alleged that some MPs use their roles on the parliamentary select committees not only to demand bribes for themselves but for their girlfriends.
Professor Adei also alleged that “at least 8 in 10 politicians in Ghana are glorified thieves although almost every need of theirs is met by the state; we have to stop it” he warned.
Commenting on the assertions, K.T. Hammond said it was irresponsible for the respected academician to make such “scandalous comments based on hearsay.”
Without further details, he stated that the professor may have to meet them in Parliament to explain himself.
“It’s not only frustrating….It’s pretty annoying, more so coming from a person of his stature and he also happens to be my constituent. I don’t expect people who have no understanding of the system to be making comments of this nature; it’s scandalous. To say that eight out of 10 MPs are thieves is unacceptable. The professor has completely overstepped his boundary and I think he would have to meet us in Parliament to point us to us those who are thieves; those who are criminals on the basis of this serious allegations.”
Parliament’s Privileges Committee recently summoned Professor Alex Dodoo and reggae musician cum radio presenter Black Rasta for making comments deemed contemptuous of Parliament.
