A sub chief in the Mankpang Traditional Area of Gonjaland in the Northern Region, Surwura Alhaji S.S Gbankulso, has served notice of dragging Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II to court.
According to him, the Buipewura has already closed down his car washing bay and threatened to confiscate all lands he bought to establish more businesses in the Buipe traditional Area.
The Surwura said he acquired the land from the local management of the Volta River Authority (VRA) for the purposes of running a car washing business in Buipe before the Buipewura Jinapor II became paramount chief of the area.
Surwura Alhaji S.S Gbankulso addressed the media in Tamale where he asserted stated that the Buipewura is harrasing prominent people perceived to be his enemies in the area.
“I was summoned to the palace of Buipewura Jinapor II on Wednesday September 17 and upon arrival the Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II, informed me that I was to cease operating my bonafide car washing business with immediate effect.”
“He also told me that I am an enemy to him and he is going to treat me as an enemy,” Surwura narrated.
The distressed chief implored the Northern Regional Security Council and other appropriate bodies to call Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II to order.
“I call on the Yagbonwura, the President of Ghana who is a son of Gonjaland, the Inspector General of Police, regional and national houses of chiefs to call the Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II to order to ensure the peaceful coexistence of the people of Buipe.”
He also called for police protection. “I call on the inspector General of Police and the police authorities to provide security to safeguard my life from any harm or ritual murder as we have recently experienced in Buipe over the last few weeks. My life and influence is worth more than the political ambitions of anybody and the thirst of influence of anybody for that matter.”
Land dispute tension
In a related development, the chiefs and people of the Mankpang Traditional Area have cautioned Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II against his alleged attempt to confiscate some lands in the area.
The youth have vowed to defend the said lands part of which accommodates the Central Gonja District Assembly complex.
Spokesperson for the youth of the Mankpang Traditional Area, Boresa Salifu Sadick, accused the Buipewura of overstepping his boundary and causing human right abuses in the area.
He asked Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II to desist from actions which could destabilize the peace of the area.
A similar chieftaincy feud between the Lebu and Jinapor gates in the past caused several deaths in the Buipe Traditional Area.
The area has for some time now enjoyed relative peace which is attracting the attention of government and foreign investors.
