A film that seeks to portray the struggling lives of some young Ghanaian women in the United Kingdom, “Afua’s Diary” is premiering tonight at the Silverbird Cinema in Accra Mall.
The film which has already won an award at the WAD Film Festival in New York is produced by Bibi Owusu Shadbolt and features Ghana’s Kwaku Sintim Missah, British actress and supermodel Cleopatra Wood and Italian actor Fabio Abraham.
Bibi told Kojo Akoto Boateng on the Citi Breakfast Show that the film, which was first shown to a private audience in the United Kingdom has been made in such a way that people will be able to relate to it.

The lead actress, Cleopatra Wood, also said that the United Kingdom’s lack of diversity when it comes to the movie industry is what encouraged her to accept the role of Afua in the movie.
“in the uk we don’t have a great deal of diversity in british cinema. To see a role the lead character asa Ghanaian woman is a great thing to bring to british cinema, to show that diversit and also to show other cultures. I also want to represent that Ghanaian girl”
Red carpet for the premiere is at 6pm, with tickets going for 30 Ghana Cedis.
