Tullow Ghana Limited has offered scholarship to 41 Ghanaians to study at top leading universities in the United Kingdom, Ireland and France for the 2015-2016 academic year.
The 41 Ghanaians were part of 74 beneficiaries selected to study for their post graduate qualifications in Europe.
Courses to be studied by the beneficiaries include – Water and Environmental Engineering, Marine Spatial Planning, Bio-technology and Business Enterprise, Journalism, Law and Corporate Social Responsibility.
Speaking at a send off dinner organized for the beneficiaries, the Managing Director of Tullow Ghana Limited, Charles Darku reiterated that Tullow’s aim to ensure sustainable growth of the oil and gas sector.
He added that the company’s internal training policy also ensures continuous development of their employees.
According to him, “International on-the-job training for our technical team is ongoing in spite of the declining global crude oil prices.”
Mr. Charles Darku also announced that in addition to the post-graduate scheme, Tullow this year introduced a scholarship scheme for technical and vocational training at the pre-tertiary level.
Beneficiaries of the pre-tertiary scheme, he disclosed, have received bursary to attend the Jubilee Technical Training Centre at Takoradi.
According to him, the aim of the pre-tertiary scheme is to support the development of pre-tertiary technical skills, which is part of the immediate needs of the oil and gas industry in the country.
For the 2015/2016 academic year, the global oil giant has awarded 10 scholarships to indigenes of the Western region, an oil producing region to commence this phase of the scholarship scheme, the Managing Director revealed.
Petroleum Minister, Emmanuel A.K. Buah, in a statement read on his behalf, commended Tullow for sustaining the scheme over the years as well as broadening its scope to include programmes at the pre-tertiary level.
Present at the event were representatives of the Ministries of Petroleum and Education, officials of the British Council, past and current awardees of the scheme, families and friends, among others. Annually, Tullow Oil Plc, through its Tullow Group Scholarship Scheme, awards full scholarships to students in Ghana and other African countries.
