This was contained in a statement signed by the Ashanti Regional NDC secretary, Raymond Tandoh.
The NDC extended the closing date for the filling of nominations for parliamentary aspirants in the Ashanti Region.
The party claimed that the decision was taken to give ample time and equal chance to their members in the region to complete the process.
Ashanti Region’s impressive response
General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia had been elated over the mad rush for nomination forms in the Ashanti Region.
He said “Ashanti, everybody knows that it is the stronghold of the main opposition party and the level of intimidation in some of the constituencies when you don’t belong to their party tends to scare potential candidates.”
“This year the process has been again very much subscribed in the Ashanti Region, we are pleasantly surprised about that because in the previous years, even in years that we won election we had some difficulty recruiting candidates for some constituencies in the region,” a startled Asiedu Nketia remarked.
Meanwhile, the list of aspirants in the Ashanti Region has increased the total number of NDC parliamentary aspirants from 689 to 804.
