Members of Ghana’s senior female national team the Black Queens; have finally left the premises of the M Plaza Hotel in Accra.
This follows a directive by President Mahama on Tuesday for the Queens to be paid $5,000 dollars each in the interim, while preparations are made for the rest of the amount owed them to be settled.
[contextly_sidebar id=”GKtnHZBB7ErGf5t0EZk1cO2Wsov7teRV”]The Black Queens had resolved not to leave the hotel until all the accrued bonuses owed them are paid after they won gold at the just ended All African Games in Congo.
According to the players, each of them is expected to receive at least $23,000 dollars of accrued arrears in the last three years.
The players were asked to leave the hotel on Friday by the Ministry of Sports due to the increasing cost of bills but interventions from some influential persons kept the team at the hotel after a promise that the bills would be paid later.
The team had been lodging at the hotel since their arrival from Congo on September 20.
Marketing Executive at the M Plaza Hotel, Eva Love Mensah, confirmed to Citi News on Wednesday that most of the players have checked out.
“Most of them are gone but we have few ones here who were called back because I heard some people wanted to come and meet them for a brief meeting”. We always give them credit facilities; sometimes they check out before they pay”.
