The Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akuffo Addo says the NPP should be commended for initiating major reforms in the country’s electoral system.
He said electoral changes such as the introduction of transparent ballot boxes and the biometric verification system have helped in deepening the country’s democracy.

“We in the NPP can say without fear or contradiction that almost every innovation that the electoral commission has brought to improve the process since the inauguration of the 4th republic (22 years ago) in 1993, has been our instigation and often in the face of initial resistance from the NDC and the EC.
“I refer here to the transparent ballot boxes, photo ID cards, biometric registration and verification, I must add the fact that we the ruling party of the day accepted in 2009 the verdict of losing a presidential election by the narrowest of margin without any fuss,” he said.
The NPP is questioning the credibility of the country’s voter’s register claiming that the register is bloated.
According to them, a revision of the voter’s register will make the outcome of the 2016 general elections more credible.
Meanwhile Nana Akuffo Addo says the NPP shall continue to uphold the peace of the country as it had done over the years.
“The culture of peaceful acceptance of distasteful electoral outcomes in the fourth republic was initiated by the NPP in the stolen verdict of 1992 and it’s been kept right up till the 2012 election petition. We shall maintain that culture because the proud amongst concern of the NPP politics is preservation of the peace, freedom and stability of Ghana,” he stated.
