When the strike was declared about a week ago, the Education Ministry said it had already initiated moves to address their concerns.
Speaking to Citi News, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, Francis Gbadago called on UTAG to call off the strike, because the allowance will hit their accounts soon.
“The Ministry of Education has received approval from the Ministry of Finance that the book and research allowance for the 2014/2015 academic year has been approved and so we have equally received the exchange rate from the Ministry of Finance.”
He said they have relayed the necessary documents regarding the payment to the National Council for tertiary education “and they are going to communicate this this to the tertiary institutions to submit their claims for payment by the Ministry of Finance.”
“What it means is that we have gone quite far, we have made significant progress in this particular regard and the Ministry of Education is calling on UTAG to call off the strike,” he added.
