The Ghana Education Service in partnership with Innovation for Poverty Alleviation (IPA) has launched an educational scheme to train teachers to build a solid foundation for students.
The project dubbed Quality Preschools for Ghana will take preschool teachers through a training process in colleges in the country.
Speaking to Citi News, a representative of GES at the Teachers Education Division, Dr Evelyn Oduro said the project will expose teachers to various teaching practices which will make learning more interesting for students, beginning as early as the kindergarten level.
“We have designed this professional development to enable teachers go undergo training on cluster or school basis so they come together and discuss their needs in terms of what they are lacking in the classroom and how they can improve teaching and learning among the children,” she explained.
Dr Oduro further explained that the three-year training programme for teachers is not enough to prepare them for adequate preschool teaching hence the Quality Preschool Project.
“We want to have a very good foundation. We all know that kindergarten children enagage in a lot of play activities. This scheme will give teachers enough opportunities to explore and play around with appropriate teaching aids. As they do that, they would be able to impact into the children and make learning more interesting for them. This would go a long way in improving the standards of students as they climb the educational ladder,” she concluded.
