The Ghana National Education Campaign Coalition (GNECC) has chastised the West African Examination Council (WAEC) for failing to properly supervise the Basic Education and Certificate Examinations (BECE) and West African Secondary School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE).
[contextly_sidebar id=”4bux6Cjs446VO7MpDX1WEolYnBChu49f”]The coalition said that the high level of irregularities reported every yearly is due to WAEC’s poor handling of exams.
Earlier this week, WAEC announced that over a thousand candidates had their subject results cancelled and close to five hundred candidates had their entire results cancelled. This comes weeks after a leakage and subsequent cancellation of some papers in the just ended BECE.
The Council Chairman of GNECC, Bright Appiah told Citi News that there is the need to prosecute WAEC officials who are found culpable in the malpractices.
“The system is weak because the leakage level shows that there are people in the system who are making these papers available. If you can get this number of students whose results have been cancelled, especially in the BECE, then there is a problem,” he said.
Mr Appiah said it will be prudent that measures will be put in place to make sure that the system is properly cleaned.
