The Muslim community in Damongo Township will no longer carry the dead shoulders high to the burial grounds.
The community can now boast of a minivan (Hearse) meant for carrying the dead to the graveyard.
The Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna personally provided the Hearse worth GHC35, 000.00.
He added a cash amount of GHC1, 000, 00 as startup capital for the Hearse maintenance.
The gesture formed part of activities marking his 48th Birthday Anniversary which his family spent with the needy in Damongo Township.
Alhaji Limuna felt carrying the deceased on shoulders was an affront to the Muslim community in Damongo, hence his contribution.
“We realized that there was the need to honor the dead and so I had a discussion with my family and we have decided that instead of going to a hotel to celebrate my birthday we have decided to donate the Hearse to the Muslim community in Damongo.”
He tasked the Chief Imam and the ulamah to put the Hearse to good use and avoid discrimination.
Alhaji Limuna who is eyeing the Damongo Parliamentary seat said the contribution should not be misconstrued to mean vote buying during the primaries.
He handed over the keys to the West Gonja District Chief Executive, Ali Bakari Kassim for onward presentation to the Damongo Chief Imam.
The DCE thanked Alhaji Limuna for the contribution and wished him good health and prosperity.
Some of the ulamah praised the Minister for his immense contribution to the Muslim community in various ways.
