The National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams has downplayed assertions by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) suggesting that some groups of persons are attempting to disenfranchise some Ghanaians in the 2016 general elections.
[contextly_sidebar id=”eAADuGL9rJQDQ6yZIig6Xz9soHxBZRzk”]According to him, although it is criminal to demand the Voters’ ID of citizens, he is calling on Ghanaians not to believe the allegations made by the opposition that some government agencies are demanding the voters’ ID in return for some services.
A statement issued and signed by the Communications Director of the NPP, Nana Akomeah on Tuesday alleged that some groups including trainee nurses, farmers and market women are being asked to submit their Voters’ ID cards in return for favours from some government agencies.
The NPP further advised the general public not to give in to such demands.
Speaking on Eyewitness News, Kofi Adams maintained the biometric system will defeat the purpose for which any person or group will seek to demands the Voters’ ID of any individual.
“You cannot by a mere fact that you have collected somebody’s ID card change the person’s biometric, you cannot, so if they want to do that and that is why the NPP is saying what they are saying… the NPP we know them, when they want to do something, they first start making noise about, then we are going to watch them clearly, he said.
