A total of GH¢2.7 million have been disbursed to 107 shortlisted young men and women under the Youth Enterprise Support (YES) program, President John Mahama has said at a ceremony on Wednesday.
President Mahama had prior to the programme stated that “They [beneficiaries] had gone through training, they’ve gone through orientation, their business ideas have been vetted, they’ve walked through them to make sure they are feasible, and so the capital bit, which is granting the financing is not at the beginning, it’s rather at the right point of establishing the business.”
He added that the YES programme will start receiving applications for the second batch of beneficiaries soon.
“We will take more people in, and so those who did not get selected in the first batch should not be discouraged, they should think through their business ideas again and they can resubmit and walk through the process and if they are selected they will be funded,” the President assured.
The YES initiative was launched exactly a year ago today and is aimed at helping young and innovative Ghanaians turn business ideas into thriving enterprises.
The President was speaking on a state radio station earlier this morning before the award ceremony.
He also indicated that, the initiative is part of a myriad of programmes to address the problem of youth unemployment in the country.
