The National Patriotic Party (NPP) has called for the compilation of a new voters register before the 2016 election.
Speaking at a Press conference held at the Alisa Hotel on Tuesday, the running mate for the NPP said a new voters register is important for the correction of anomalies in the existing one.

“The evidence that we have is damning and shows that Ghana’s voters register has been compromised,” Dr Bawumia said “what is more troubling is the fact that most of the pictures on the register were scanned unto the cards. These pictures do not represent real registers. It is not a document we can rely on for free, fair elections.”
Dr Bawumia outlined the following recommendations in his address to journalists and the Electoral Commission.
- We recommend that a new voters’ register should be created to replace the over bloated 2012 register. It should be created no later than June 2016.
- The new register should result in the issue of permanent voter card with biometric details of everybody
- The period of registration should be a maximum of two weeks and should take place simultaneously across all polling stations.
- It should be audited by internationally reputable firms once it’s done
- Copies of the new register should be made available to all political parties
- It should be sorted by first and last names, gender and age
- The register should be released to the party in a maximum of three months before the election to address all issues before the general election
- Resource a national database to create a register for all registrations including National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) register, National identification Authority (NIA), and National youth employment can all resort to one national database.
