A week after government promised to pay 11 months’ salary arrears to the 91 aggrieved junior doctors, it has emerged that only one person is yet to receive his due.

The junior doctors had last week picketed at the offices of the Controller and Accountant General’s Department after various efforts to get their 11-month salaries paid them yielded no positive results.
Spokesperson for the junior doctors, Dr. Nana Kissi Attafah confirmed the payments in an interview with Citi News.
“As it stands now 90 out of the 91 of us have received their monies either by a reflection in their account or by a cheque. Currently, only one person is having an issue but we hope it is addressed sooner rather than latter,” he said.
Dr. Nana Kissi Attafah however expressed concern that some of the cheques presented to the doctors have since been rejected by the banks.
“Our concern however is that most or some of the cheques given to some of us have been bounced by our banks. For example a cheque signed for a junior doctor at Korle-Bu and one other hospital has been rejected by their banks but we are hoping it will be transformed. So we are going to make an appeal to those at Korle-Bu to take time anytime their checks are bounced by their banks…we cannot continue to work for such a long time without our salaries,” he stated.
