The 20 semi-finalists of Citi FM’s Write-Away Contest and their parents have expressed their excitement ahead of the announcement of the top 10 finalists on Monday,
The twenty young writers who were shortlisted from over 1,500 entries were vetted on Saturday.
One of the contestants told Citi News: “It’s very exciting. I was very excited when my mum told me that I had been shortlisted among the first 20 entries. I know I will win this year. I am very sure of that.”
Another semi-finalist thanked Citi FM for organizing the contest as it gave him ‘an opportunity to express’ himself.
A third writer said: I feel very honoured and privileged to be part of the top 20. I think this is a very good opportunity to share what I have with the world. I find this competition very helpful especially to young writers.”
She added that she expects be “at least part of the first three” when the winner is announced.
The parents of the contestants were equally excited about the chances of their wards.
One of them said: It has given a good opportunity to the children to show their talents and it is a very good idea
The students whose scripts were drawn from over 1,500 entries will be scrutinized by the seasoned examiners and given the opportunity to defend their scripts.
The annual event organized by Citi FM seeks to test the writing and imaginative skills of children and reward them accordingly.
The overall winner of the 2015 Write-Away contest will be presented with a cash prize of GHc10,000 with the first and second runners-up winning GHc5,000 and GHc2,000 respectively.
