Tigo Ghana has built a brand new fully furnished six unit classroom block for the Obeng Yaw community in the Eastern region.
This is the first beneficiary community as part of Tigo’s attempt to transform education in rural Ghana through its Shelter 4 Education project.
The project is part of Tigo’s new flagship CSR programme which involves the building of new schools across the country to replace makeshift structures popularly referred to as “schools under trees”.
The Obeng Yaw Basic School in Adeiso can now also boast of an office space for the Headmaster, a staff common room and a pantry.
According to Tigo, it is committed to relocate 1,000school children from makeshift structures to help the country achieve MDG 2 – Achieving Universal Primary Education.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, CEO of Tigo Ghana, Roshi Motman, “We are genuinely a caring brand. We care about our business and we also care about the people that make our business what it is – a leading telecommunication service provider. Education is key in building a great nation and for Tigo, we want to contribute in shaping the lives of these children – who in future will build Ghana”.
She said Tigo was also providing students of the school with uniforms, books and other branded gift items.
