President John Mahama has announced that the Talensi by-election slated for July 7 is “a dress rehearsal” for the 2016 general elections.
He is predicting that the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) candidate, BT Baba will win the seat by 20,000 votes.
The President served notice that the NDC will prove to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that the 2016 election “is a done deal.”
President Mahama said this when he addressed thousands of NDC supporters at the Catholic Park in Tingo during the party’s final rally in Talensi.
“I want to thank you very much for the massive support you showed me in 2012. 17,100 votes from this constituency for the presidency but unfortunately, with the parliamentary, because of the misunderstanding, our candidate got 9,000 votes. Now Talensi is united again, Talensi is one. There are no divisions amongst us.”
“So what are we going to do? The 6,000 votes that went to PNC are coming back to NDC. And not only the 6,000 votes…to show that you endorse B.T. Baba and NDC, I’m looking for 20,000 votes on Tuesday. It is important because this is a dress rehearsal for 2016.”
“Talensi is the dress rehearsal, the thermometer and the barometer for 2016. We need to send a strong signal about what is going to happen in 2016 in Ghana and I want to assure you [that] by the grace of the almighty God, NDC will win 2016 one touch,” he added.
