Ahead of the bye-election in the Talensi constituency in the Upper East Region, Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has been touring the constituency campaigning for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the area B.T Baba.
The Vice President is being accompanied by the Deputy National Chairman, Ofosu Ampofo, National organizer Kofi Adams, Deputy National Director of elections Bede Ziedeg and other party executives.
At the Royal Palace of the Talensi Paramount chief, Tongraan Kugbil Song Namelteng, the Vice President introduced the NDC candidate and other traditional rulers and expressed confidence in B.T Baba to better represent the constituent.
Mr. Amissah-Arthur said his purpose for coming to the constituency was for two reasons;
“First thing is that we heard in Accra that some people say they will remove the Talensi DCE, Edward Awunnore and I came to tell you that, that rumor is not true so he should relax and do his work,” he assured.
“The second one is to introduce the parliamentary candidate of the NDC B.T Baba, a son of your land to you because the man that we have brought for you for the by-election is known all over Ghana. He is a great citizen of this constituency and we have full faith and confidence in him that the work that he has done for Ghana before, he can continue for this constituency.”
Deputy National chairman of the party, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo said since 1992, the people of Talensi have kept faith to the NDC but in 2012 something happened and the NDC lost the parliamentary elections but in less than two and half years the seat is coming back to the party again.
“We are therefore asking all party supporters, party members to close your ranks and work together for the common goal of the party to bring development to the constituency. From here, don’t sleep, it’s not about mass rally, it is about house to house. Let us adopt house to house campaign, enter every house, every hamlet, every village, every vote counts because we want to win and win massively to ensure that our candidate B.T Baba goes to parliament and brings the development,” he added.
Meanwhile, the running mate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is also in the region campaigning for the NPP’s candiadate Thomas Duanab Wuni.
The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has also thrown its weight behind the People’s National Convention’s (PNC) parliamentary candidate for Talensi, Dr. Michael Wombeago.
The Electoral Commission has set July 7, to hold a by-election in Talensi following the elevation of the Member of Parliament for the area, Robert Mosore to the position of a paramount chief for the Tongo Traditional area.
