Accra Hearts of Oak defend the President’s Cup after beating arch rivals Asante Kotoko 5-4 on penalties as Michael Akuffo missed his kick.
Both sides started the game with a lot of caution propbably for tactical reasons but as the half wore on Accra Hearts of Oak threatened the defense of Kotoko and brought the Porcupine Warriors out of their shells to also release some attrition at the Phobians.
The best chances of the half fell to Hearts of Oak’s Eric Kumi who failed to bury any of the glaring opportunities that came his way.
The second half began in earnest especially for Kotoko who indicated early signs of wanting to score but a clear opportunity that fell to Eric Donkor was squandered.
Ahmed Toure nearly opened the scoring after volleying a pass but goalkeeper for Hearts of Oak, Soulama Abdoulaye put up a brilliant save the deny Kotoko’s tomentor-in-chief.
Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko rallied on in the second half but to no avail so they had to settle on the lottery of penalty shoot-out.
