An Accra Fast Track court has struck out an injunction application seeking to further prevent the Parliamentary Primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Klottey Korle constituency.
The elections in the constituency was scheduled to take place last Saturday but it was suspended after some aggrieved members of the party secured an interim injunction.
[contextly_sidebar id=”ht4gZJgyjAk6d8MYzdcnpmoL21PbXtTp”]The motion was served after one of the main contenders, Nii Noi Nortey was accused of presenting fake certificates to the Vetting Committee of the NPP.
The plaintiffs are Ebenezer Acquah, George Attor Williams, Juliana Briandt, Michael Nana Nkansa, Edward Quansah and Mary Crentsil.
The aspirant is alleged to have presented a certificate from the University of Ghana which some have claimed was not authentic – claims Nii Nortey says “have no merit.”
The court, presided over by Justice Ofori Attah dismissed the application and said the plaintiffs failed to prove that if the injunction is not granted, it will affect the NPP ahead of the 2016 elections.
Nortey, addressing delegates at the venue on Saturday, claimed he had forgiven those who dragged the matter to court and called for calm among the delegates.
“I will plead with all of you to exercise restraint. Your vote is in your heart and head. If they say they won’t allow us to vote, we will go. But when all is said and done, we will come and vote. I have forgiven those who has filed a court case against me,” he added.
Voting was also suspended in the Kwesimintim constituency where one of the candidates, Joseph Mensah secured an injunction stopping the election from taking place following reports that he [Joseph Mensah] had been disqualified from the race.
