Michael Kors, who was recently named a United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Global Ambassador Against Hunger for his ongoing efforts in philanthropy, has announced that actress Kate Hudson will be joining him on his mission to feed hungry children.
The two longtime friends, who attended the 2015 Met Gala together and once physically collided in an airport, are pairing up in support of Watch Hunger Stop, a charitable campaign launched by Kors in 2013 in partnership with the WFP: Each time someone purchases one of the designer’s 100 Series watches, 100 needy children receive a healthy meal from WFP’s School Meals Program.
In 2014, Kors also pledged to donate 100 more meals each time someone posts a “selfless selfie” while wearing the foundation’s t-shirt.
So far, Kors has donated more than 10 million meals — and now, with Hudson’s help, he’s aiming to make that number even higher.
This isn’t Hudson’s first brush with philanthropy. She’s also helped raise funds and awareness for Healthy Child Healthy World and the Red Cross, among others.
Said Hudson, “As a mother, I can’t think of anything more important than raising a healthy and educated generation of children, and WFP’s School Meals Program is committed to exactly that. This is a cause that I’m eager to be a part of because I believe we can all make a real and significant difference.”
First on her and Kors’s agenda? Further promoting the Watch Hunger Stop campaign with the release of two limited-edition styles of the Michael Kors Bradshaw watch(as worn by Hudson and Kors, above) in October — the sales of which will also provide food to needy kids the world over.
Throughout the month, shoppers will additionally be able to donate money to to WFP at the register.
