The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection is to start cash payment to persons affected by the June 3 flood disaster from tomorrow Friday, July 24, 2015.
About 13,000 households in the Greater Accra, Volta, Ashanti, Western and Central Regions will each be paid GH¢100 for the next three months.

According to the statement following the floods that resulted in the loss of property and livelihoods, and the death of more than 150 people, the Ministry pledged to use its Emergency Livelihood Empowerment against Poverty (LEAP) programme to pay cash reliefs to persons affected by the disaster.
Categories of beneficiaries include households, which lost a breadwinner in the flood and fire disaster, as well as those who lost their businesses and other belongings.
“To select beneficiaries of this intervention, the LEAP Management Unit of the Department of Social Development did a mapping of the affected communities and administered questionnaires to affected persons. A ranking was done and the beneficiaries were selected,” the statement added.
It also added that “payment will start from Circle Odorna, where 1,277 have been identified. Other communities in Greater Accra where beneficiaries have been identified are Gbegbeese, Glefe, Osu, Ashiaman and Teshie. The rest are Tema, Nungua, Kaneshie, Ada and Adenta. In the Volta Region, payment to affected persons will be done in Keta and Ketu South. Those in the Ashanti, Western and Central Regions will also be paid.”
Meanwhile, the Ministry has announced that the payments will be done electronically through the Ghana Interbank Payment Settlement System (GhIPSS).
“The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has already presented rice, cooking oil, mattresses and blankets to persons affected by the floods in Keta, Osu and Asokore Mampong in Ashanti,” the statement added.
