The Northern Regional Police Command has confirmed that the death toll in Thursday’s shooting incident at Bimbilla in the Northern Region has risen to eight.
On Thursday, the Police reported that four people had been killed while those who were injured were taken to the Bimbilla government hospital for treatment.
[contextly_sidebar id=”2O8lgXxq4t5T8MJBf2dYxh4UmrC715Ml”]There was sporadic shooting in Bimbilla in the Nanumba North District involving some butchers and guards of the regent of Nanumba.
Some butchers allegedly refused to present a portion of their meat to the chief in the area as demanded by tradition.
This sparked the clashes between the butchers and guards.
Some houses were also set ablaze in during the clashes.
In an interview with Citi News, Northern Regional Police PRO, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, also stated that eight people including the registrar of the Nanumba Traditional Council.
According to the Police, they have all been arraigned before Tamale District Court on murder charges in connection with the clashes.
He said: “They were arrested in the evening of yesterday but for now, our attention is on maintaining calm, law and order in Bimbilla because we want to keep our eyes on the ball.”
