About 1,700 angry retired army officers will this morning besiege the country’s Parliament to register their displeasure over what they describe as under payment of their gratuities.
[contextly_sidebar id=”sVs7VlEH1DdulwtwOn0xzW8qouMNzuOV”]The retired army officers say since 2010, the Finance Ministry has under paid their end of service benefits a situation they bemoan.
They say several petitions to the Ministry for the anomaly to be rectified have not been heeded to.
Speaking to Citi News one of the spokespersons of the angry officers, WO2 Aidoo Mahama said they have arranged a meeting with the Speaker of Parliament on the matter even though Parliament is on recess.
He lamented that “we are underpaid based on what was supposed to be done as at the that time because the single spine salary programme had already taken off in January 2010 while we were in the system and exited somewhere around June.”
“So there is no way we should have been paid by that pay policy. So this is our reason. We want to go and meet them, we’ve petitioned the Speaker of Parliament and the chairman of the Parliamentary select Committee on Defense and Interior,” he added.
