The third Atta Mills Memorial Lectures which is held in memory of Ghana’s late President, John Evans Atta Mills, is scheduled to take place this afternoon [Tuesday] at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) in Accra.
[contextly_sidebar id=”QnLan4zDiLBDRo9GPh8o7zK4ytSzE9cB”]The lecture will be held under the theme “The Role of Intellectuals in African Politics and Governance” and it will be addressed by a former governor of Ekiti State in Nigeria Dr. Kayode Fayemi.
As part of the celebrations, there will be no wreath laying ceremony at the burial grounds of the late President known as the Asomdwee Park but it will be open to the public on that day.
The first memorial lecture was delivered by Professor Kwamena Ahwoi, former Minister in the Rawlings administration while the second lecture was delivered by Dr Mohammed Ibn Chambas, former Foreign Minister of Ghana and UN Special Representative for West Africa.
This year’s lecture coincides with the (71st post-humous) birthday of late President Atta Mills, who was born on July 21, 1944.
President Atta Mills was President of Ghana from 2009 and 2012 when he died in office.
