The Brong Ahafo Regional Amnesty Board will today release 125 prisoners in the region.
This is in accordance with the amnesty granted by President John Mahama who released a total of 900 prisoners on May day.
[contextly_sidebar id=”iVEef5cLdWjcIdMdtwIFMZRTZiSiE0J4″]Speaking to Citi News the head of Public Affairs at the Sunyani Central Prison, ASP Zeniel said the prisoners will be released after paper works on their release were concluded.
According to ASP Zeniel, all he set for their release.
He said 17 prisoners will be released from the Yeji prison, 29 at Duayaw Nkwanta, Kenyasi will release 51 with the Sunyani Central Prisons releasing 28.
Meanwhile, the inmates who could not get the consideration of the amnesty board are appealing to President Mahama to fulfill his promise of improving the conditions at the country’s prisons.
In another development, President Mahama has assured the Ghana Prisons Service government will increase their budget allocation to help the service better manage its affairs.
“In the next budget cycle, I intend to push for an increase in resource allocation for the Ghana Prisons service,” he indicated.
