A group calling itself the Yendi Concerned Citizens has served notice of demonstrating on June 28 over the acute water shortage in the area.
The group is giving the Yendi Municipal Assembly one week ultimatum to solve with the problem.
According to group’s President, Mohammed Amin, residents have for the past two months been struggling to access clean water.
He fumed, “We the Concerned Citizens of Yendi have vowed to stage a massive demonstration if by 28th of June, 2015 the situation remains unchanged.”
As a predominantly dominated Muslim community, he said the water crisis had deepened the woes of Yendi residents during the Ramadan season.
“We are in the month of Ramadan and water is very essential in performing some of the religious rituals and other activities: performance of ablution requires the use of water as most supplications are observed in this month than any other month: in addition, preparation of food for fasting and breaking of fasting require the use of safe drinking water.”
